Amanda is using "mail", and it works fine (just sent a test message
using "mail"). Here's what I got when I typed in what you suggested:
UNCOMPRESS_PATH="/usr/bin/gzip" MAILER="/usr/bin/Mail"
Unix is case sentive; so amanda actually uses "Mail". But I guess that works too (try it in any case).
In amanda.conf you should also specify who to send mail to. Is that done too?
Also amanda "amcheck" does not send mail if there is no problem.
