Hi. I use amanda to backup a samba share (and other filesystems). I run amverify after each amdump. Everything was ok (for month) until amverify (the backup report was ok) returned:
----------- amverify daily Tue Feb 10 02:09:17 CET 2004 Using device /dev/nst0 Volume daily08, Date 20040210 Checked localhost._boot.20040210.0 Checked localhost.__vg-desktop_maintenance.20040210.0 Checked localhost._home.20040210.3 Checked localhost._.20040210.0 ** Error detected (localhost.__vg-desktop_outlook.20040210.0) amrestore: WARNING: not at start of tape, file numbers will be offset amrestore: 0: restoring localhost.__vg-desktop_outlook.20040210.0 /bin/tar: Skipping to next header /bin/tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors 64+0 records in 64+0 records out Checked localhost._var_local_evistel.20040210.2 End-of-Tape detected. ------------- Running maveriy by hand returned the same result. I suspected the tape, and changed it. The verify after the next backup returned the same problem: -------------- amverify daily Wed Feb 11 01:55:56 CET 2004 Using device /dev/nst0 Volume daily08, Date 20040211 Checked localhost._boot.20040211.0 Checked localhost._home.20040211.4 Checked localhost.__vg-desktop_maintenance.20040211.0 Checked localhost._.20040211.0 ** Error detected (localhost.__vg-desktop_outlook.20040211.0) amrestore: WARNING: not at start of tape, file numbers will be offset amrestore: 0: restoring localhost.__vg-desktop_outlook.20040211.0 /bin/tar: Skipping to next header /bin/tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors 64+0 records in 64+0 records out Checked localhost._var_local_evistel.20040211.0 End-of-Tape detected. ---------------- Both verify runs fail reading the same file on the tape: an image of a 1.28 Gb samba share. I checked both tapes by reading the tapes and files header blocks. It does not mean that those files are not corrupted, but this is unlikely. Is there a size limit to the file that amverify (tar ?) can handle ? The amanda server runs RHS 7.3, amanda 2.4.2p2, gnu tar 1.13.19, samba 2.0.7. Vincent
