amdump tests for two files, $logdir/amdump and $logdir/log and one or both is present, it assumes another am{dump,flush} is running. Amcleanup is supposed to clean these two files.
You'll have to find out why this did not happen. Permission problems? Remove/rename the files manually if nothing helps.
