For what you want, you must use tar. Dump does whole filesystems only. Tar however can do subdirs individually, and includes/excludes as long as samba isn't involved. Watch your tar's version number, it s/b 1.13-19 thru 1.13-25. No one has said yet if the 1.13-9x version works that I can recall. If the newest one works, please advise this list so that we can modify our recommendations.
