'offline' usually indicates permissions problems, If all your other
disks backup successfully, check the perms on the failing directory
(especially if it is an NFS mount, where root often gets mapped to
nobody by default).
  If all your disks fail and its a new install, you probably forgot
to do a make install as root so that all the proper SUID bits weren't
set on the executables.
