amtoc -a is producing tape.toc not 'tape'.toc

Hiya --
   I recompiled to version 2.5.0p2  a week ago.   Previously 
(probably a lower version
but I forget)
    amtoc  -a     logfile
produced a file with the tape label as the name.     ex:   mytape01.toc
Since then,  it is producing the literal file         tape.toc
which is less helpful, cause each day overwrites the previous file!

Am I doing something wrong,  or has   amtoc   changed?
