I get the same sort of thing with 2.5.1p3 on Solaris 9 using ufsdump
with ssh.

I had assumed it was because ssh on Solaris 9 seems to have an issue
with terminating connections -- I get sshd kern.notice in
/var/adm/messages every time an ssh session disconnects. They've patched
it a couple of times, but can't seem to get it right. So I was just
ignoring the defunct amanda processes. They go away when the backup is
completed anyway.
