Right on. GNU tar version is 1.15.91 and
/var/log/amanda/sendsize.blahblah has the following errors:

  sendsize[16402]: argument list: /bin/tar --create --file /dev/null
      --directory /boot --one-file-system --numeric-owner --listed-incremental
      /var/lib/amanda/gnutar-lists/gw.n.xatl.drdc-rddc.gc.ca_boot_1.new
      --sparse --ignore-failed-read --totals .
sendsize[16402]: time 0.815: /bin/tar: Unexpected field value in snapshot file
sendsize[16402]: time 0.815: /bin/tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I've just built and installed tar 1.15 and we'll see what happens
tonight...

regards :-)
