First, check the debug logs on the server. Check owerships and permissions on /home/amandabackup/.amandahosts It must belongs to the amanda user and not world readable. Make the perms 600 to be 100% sure. What authentication mechanism are you using? bsd/bsdudp/bsdtcp?
