Hi Nick, We have a Dell ML6020, which as I understand is a rebranded Quantum/ADIC Scalar i500, which is itself a rebranded IBM product (I think the T3310, but I could be wrong).
The drives in this thing, as we ordered it, are four IBM ULTRIUM LTO4 fibre channel drives, which we connected directly to our SAN switches. There's an option in the library for a fibre blade, which allows for path failover, but we were on a budget. With an RHEL 5 host as the Amanda server (version 2.6.0p1), the biggest headache was finding, installing and configuring the drivers for the drives themselves. However, the changer showed up immediately as an sg device that I could control with mtx. Once I found the drivers, buried deep on one of IBM's ftp sites, I was able to access the drives. I have no major complaints about this library. If the 6020 is a bit much for your needs (128 slots, up to 6 LTO3/4 drives, SAS/FC connectivity, auto-cleaning, LTO4 library-managed encryption), you might want to look at the 6010, or perhaps something from the TL4000 or TL2000 line. Or look at a comparable IBM or Quantum product, whatever gives you the best bang for your buck. For us, the first consideration was encryption (offsite storage), second was cost; we had an existing relationship with Dell (thus the great deal). The 800GB uncompressed cartridge capacity is gravy. :) Cheers -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nick Brockner Sent: October 27, 2008 12:28 To: [email protected] Subject: LTO drives Howdy, Time to replace the aging DAT changer. Just looking for some input on what LTO3/4 drives (or libraries) work well with amanda.
