The trouble concerned previous installations of the windows version of
AMANDA 2.5.2p1,
which never worked for us (at least not with AMANDA 2.6.0p1 on a linux
server).
There were remnants of AMANDA 2.5.2p1 on the machines below; in two cases
c:\cygwin
had to be removed.

Aside from my reply to myself, there was no reply from the list on my most
recent
Windows AMANDA queries.
