I have set up an Amanda client on a Red Hat 5.2 server and amcheck recognizes the new client.
One of the things that I had to do for the 5.2 client to work is change the permissions and group for the device /dev/root. The problem is that this change will not last past a reboot. I had this same problem on a Red Hat 4.x client, a while back, and found a file that I could modify that would set /dev/root to the way I needed at boot time.
