Your SCSI HBA ran into a failure on the SCSI bus, and went through its usual recovery steps - try to reset the failed target, try to abort, offline the device, try to reset the failed bus, and try to reset the failed HBA. It looks like it stopped after the third step, leaving your /dev/st1 without access to its drive, but the rest of your system intact.
This can happen because of a bogus CDB sent to the tape drive, but the 'st' driver really shouldn't do that. So it's either a hardware failure (noise on the line or whatever) or an error in the tape drive. Dustin -- Open Source Storage Engineer http://www.zmanda.com
