I'd go even further and wish that I could keep several nights' backups on the holding disk, even to the point of keeping it somewhat full and removing old backups when space is needed. I have many TB of holding disk, and when tapes rotate offsite we're always faced with the question of what happens when we need to restore from an offsite tape. Doing mirrored tape isn't in the budget, unfortunately. Plus, even with a library and fast tape drive it's still faster to pull things from disk. - J<
