More on my connection timeout issue.
[Much prior information removed from the email]
FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:
dorldom1 /export/zones/dorldom1z1 lev 0 FAILED [mesg read: Connection timed
out]
dorldom1 /export/zones/sc1beaz1 lev 0 FAILED [mesg read: Connection timed

As a sanity check I went to my server and as the amanda user
(in this case actually userid="amanda") I tested writability
to my amanda work parititons.
The test was basically.
# touch /amanda/work/a /amanda2/work/a ... /amanda6/work/a
All files where created with no problems. I have write access
as amanda to all 7 work partitions.
I then checked and made sure chunksize was set for each of them,
I used a 1 gig chunksize for each of the work area.
Adding up the capacity of the work areas, I find that I have about
150 gig of space total.
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
Holding disk /amanda6/work: 34666136 KB disk space available, that's plenty
Holding disk /amanda5/work: 17239108 KB disk space available, that's plenty
Holding disk /amanda4/work: 17239108 KB disk space available, that's plenty
Holding disk /amanda3/work: 17239108 KB disk space available, that's plenty
Holding disk /amanda2/work: 15854341 KB disk space available, that's plenty
Holding disk /amanda/work: 57092022 KB disk space available, that's plenty
(brought to you by Amanda 2.4.4)
Looking at the subdirectories that I'm trying to backup I see
the following.
# du -hs *
323G dorldom1z1
33G sc1beaz1
17G sc1beaz2
21G sc1beaz3
1K zone.tmpl
I'd actually expect the DLE for dorldom1z1 to fail outright, its
just too big for the tape. We simply don't have the capacity to
back it up, nor the holding area.
The holding area should be sufficient for all other partitions
though.
Not that we are seeing an error that indicates a work area problem,
but since the largest partition seems to just hang about the time
its moved enough data to find a work area partion I had to wonder
if it was a related problem, or if for some reason we had an issue
with chunksize not working.
I suppose the sane thing to do is start a dump of the sc1beaz1
partition and eyeball the work area.
Remember, which the client is 2.6.1p1, the server is only 2.4.4.
thank you,
Brian
