Just browsed the latest amanda-reports coming in from my servers out there.

Noticed this:

<

taper: Problem writing label 'EAG158' to volume EAG158 (volume may be
erased): Error reading Amanda header

> ( Amanda version 2.6.1p1, btw )

What does that mean?

OK, over the years I have gotten used to labels getting "lost" somehow,
tapes needing to be re-amlabel-ed ...

* Do we have to expect labels getting lost/erased/unreadable?
* What does that mean? tapes degrade?
* What to do? relabel? for how long? kick out tapes and buy new tapes?

I ask myself:

"How reliable are my backups when even that small header gets lost now
and then?"

Thanks for any feedback.

Stefan
