Hi all,

We're running Amanda 2.6.0p2 on a 64-bit RHEL 5 machine (code compiled
on the same host) against a Dell PowerVault ML6020 library (LTO4 drives)
and have been for well over a year.

Every once in a while, we'll get a backup report where "A TAPE ERROR
OCCURRED: [Could not find a tape to use]", even though the next expected
tape is in the library, and other tapes further down in the tapelist are
also available. But that's not the part that really concerns me.

When I load the expected tape and attempt to read the tape header, there
*is* no header on the tape. In today's instance of the problem, I know
that I've backed up to the tape at least twice before (I have the backup
reports to prove it). To the best of my knowledge, the tape in question
has never been dropped, and can be written to after force-writing the
header back to the tape.

The reason I'm so concerned is, I can't get amrestore to list the tape's
contents after re-writing the header, so I won't be able to restore any
data from the tape (unless there's a trick to it that I'm not aware of).

Any thoughts on this or suggestions of things I should check/change?

Thanks in advance!
