Alternatively, looking at the info page for tar, I see that
--listed-incremental takes an argument, a file name. That's probably
what /usr/local/var/amanda/gnutar-lists/server_usr_0.new is. Is that
file still there? Can you catch that directory in the act while amanda
is running?

You didn't mention the version of tar you are using. So you get to

Also, please don't hijack threads. Two different topics with the same
