Greetings all;

I disturbed amanda's schedule about 3 weeks back by shutting the whole
system down for 6 days while the wife and I took a few days to "get out of
Dodge".

Since the restart, the scheduling, which I assumed would stabilize in a
week or so, doesn't seemed to have settled as well as it should, with the
total size of the backups still varying from 14g to 35g just in the last
few days.

Then last night, the printed report was a blank sheet of paper on the
output tray this morning.

I've spent 1/2 an hour reading amdump.1, and /tmp/amanda-dbg stuff, not
finding any obvious errors except possibly a printing error in amreport-
datestring,debug.

I have about 25 files sitting in the dumps directory from last nights run.

Curiously no files from 'shop.' But they were 'taped' ok.

amcheck reports things are OK.

System operation this morning seems normal, and there are no leftover
amanda owned processes.

There was much of the ghostscript install replaced by the package manager
yesterday, which could explain to lack of a printed report. There is over
100Gb free on the vtapes drive, so there is no reason for the dumps not to
have been flushed.

Firefox, looking at localhost:631/epson/jobs shows an amanda sourced job
failed with a "/usr/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster failed", which would explain
the missing report.

The synaptic package manager updated the following files yesterday:
Sep 21 08:19:19 coyote synaptic: [RPM] ghostscript-common-9.04-1pclos2011.i586
installed
Sep 21 08:19:20 coyote synaptic: [RPM] libgs9-9.04-1pclos2011.i586 installed
Sep 21 08:19:22 coyote synaptic: [RPM] ghostscript-9.04-1pclos2011.i586

Sep 21 08:19:23 coyote synaptic: [RPM] ghostscript-dvipdf-9.04-1pclos2011.i586
installed
Sep 21 08:19:23 coyote synaptic: [RPM] ghostscript-X-9.04-1pclos2011.i586
installed
Sep 21 08:19:23 coyote synaptic: [RPM]
ghostscript-module-X-9.04-1pclos2011.i586 installed
Sep 21 08:19:25 coyote synaptic: [RPM] lomanager-3.4.3-4pclos2011.noarch
installed
Sep 21 08:19:25 coyote synaptic: [RPM] libijs1-0.36-81pclos2011.i586 installed
Sep 21 08:19:26 coyote synaptic: [RPM] ghostscript-doc-9.04-1pclos2011.i586
installed
Sep 21 08:19:27 coyote synaptic: [RPM] addlocale-4.0-4pclos2011.noarch installed
Sep 21 08:19:28 coyote synaptic: [RPM] acpid-2.0.12-1pclos2011.i586 installed

Checking into /amandatapes/Dailys/slot16, used by last nights run, it
appears some of the backups did make it to the vtape media, AND a quick
"du -h ." says 33Gb. That nominally coincides with the size of a vtape
set in my amanda.conf. And more or less explains the apparent lack of
a real error in the logs & dbg files.

I am going to restart cupsd now. Did, then tried to reprint the failed
amanda job, getting the same error and a blank sheet of paper.

Fixing the scheduler would also help. It is not settling in like it should.
I will expand the vtape size to 50Gb for tonights run, which is about 2.5x
an average run needs if it is 'in balance'.

I'll take the printer problem to the pclos forum.

Cheers, gene
