Amanda tries to balance its schedule of level 0 dumps so that the same amount of "tape" is used each backup (or is it same amount of tape for the full backups that day?). It does this balancing by shifting backup levels of the DLEs keeping within the constraints the new DLEs must start with a level 0 and existing DLEs get their level 0s within their dumpcycle periods. (note, different DLEs can have different dumpcycles) On your day 2, how else to achieve a tape usage balance without promoting some DLEs to consecutive level 0s? Jon -- Jon H.
