Just a quick follow up. I wanted to share the file in question was
successfully recovered without further problems. The trick is to comment
out all of the debugging statements in the index server (amidxtaped).

Change these lines:
debug("CTL << $chopped");

Into these lines:
#debug("CTL << $chopped");

Reference, as suggested by Steven Backus:
http://forums.zmanda.com/showthread.php?3691-amrecover-segmentation-fault

This is definitely a bug in the latest amanda stable. To clarify, I am
running Amanda version 3.3.1, compiled from source on CentOS 6.2.

Is it presumptuous to assume this will make its way to the developers as
a bug report?

Thanks again.

Sincerely,
