For the past three days I've been seeing this message under the FAILURE AND
STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:

taper: FATAL syncpipe_get: r: unexpected EOF

And under the NOTES I see these from the past three day's reports:

taper: tape LinuxDaily05 kb 503109216 fm 34 writing file: Input/output error
  driver: Taper protocol error
driver: going into degraded mode because of taper component error.
driver: taper exited with code 1

taper: tape LinuxDaily04 kb 674588192 fm 36 writing file: Input/output error

driver: going into degraded mode because of taper component error.
driver: taper exited with code 1

taper: tape LinuxDaily03 kb 6040096 fm 31 writing file: Input/output error

driver: taper exited with code 1

I have runtapes set to two and in the past, I've seen AMANDA use the second
tape after the first one experienced I/O errors, however that is no longer
occurring. I haven't seen usage beyond 50% of an LTO-4 so I'm not sure what to
check next. For addition background, there is only one drive in this Dell
PowerVault 124T and it's been cleaned and updated to the latest vendor firmware
recently. The tapes for a daily config are about two years old and get used
once a month. This tapehost also has a monthly config which hasn't written
data to all of the tapes currently in rotation. That is to say that there are
tapes from the monthly config which so far have only been loaded to run
amlabel, not amdump and these brand new tapes appear to be problematic as well.
The last successful monthly job ran on March 4 reporting:

These dumps were to tape MvccMonthly05.
The next 2 tapes Amanda expects to use are: a new tape, a new tape.
The next 2 new tapes already labelled are: MvccMonthly06, MvccMonthly07.

Then on April 1, AMANDA loaded MvccMonthly07 instead of MvccMonthly06 and
failed after writing only 15GB

These dumps were to tape MvccMonthly07.
*** A TAPE ERROR OCCURRED: [No more writable valid tape found].
Some dumps may have been left in the holding disk.
Run amflush to flush them to tape.
The next 2 tapes Amanda expects to use are: a new tape, a new tape.
The next 2 new tapes already labelled are: MvccMonthly06, MvccMonthly08.

I appreciate any advise that can be given or point me in the right direction.
