Welllll …..
you could do   "amdump  config  --no-taper  nodename  DLE DLE2  nodename  DLE3"
This would give you the index files and would leave the dumps on your holding 
disk without using up a tape.
Since you wouldn't be going to tape,  it might over-fill your holding disk,  
which is why I suggested doing
a few DLEs  at a time.
