After trying to fix this now for 2 weeks, it has mysteriously fixed itself :-( I have no idea whether it was something I did or consequential on some other activity on this server but I am not complaining. It is now working again. Unfortunately things that fix themselves sometimes can get unfixed too and not knowing the cause or the remedy will put be back where I was.
