FWIW, an exclude or in my case an exclude-list, contains paths that are
all relative, so your file above is an exclude-list, and should look
like:

./backupdisk
./dwsmirror
./snowboard
./snowboard2

So that directory entry, when found, is skipped regardless of where it is
in the file system. And because its skipped, so is the filesystem
beyond it in the path. The trailing slash has no useful purpose that I
am aware of.

Mine contains a different list of course:

./*.iso
./.gvfs
./Ksocket-gene
./orbit-gene
./init
./lock
./run
./rpc_pipefs

so that any huge .iso images are skipped, and the rest are all
dynamically generated, so even if amanda/tar could back them up,
attempting to recover them would likey cause a crash due to session
differences.

The path to this file exclude-list however is specified in absolute:
        exclude list "/GenesAmandaHelper-0.61/excludes"
In the "Global" dumptype

The backup drive itself (I use virtual tapes, far more dependable and
longer lasting than any "real" tape I can afford) /AmandaTapes-1-T disk
is skipped because its not named in a disklist entry even though it is
mounted in fstab.

For some reason I've long since forgotten, my "holdingdisk"
is /usr/dumps.

That local /usr is broken down to individual subdirs in the disklist,
but /usr/dumps, is not included, so no attempt to backup /usr/dumps is
made.

I am running 3.3.7p1 on all machines here, and the only errors I see are
either created by kmails maintence scripts firing off at odd times,
generating file removed before we got to it type msgs, or total failures
of a disklist entry for a remote machine out in the shop building that
may have been killed by a power bump and those do not have a ups.

For me, no biggie as I have a fairly short expiry rule for most of
kmails "folders".

[big snip]

HTH.
