Hello, fellow Amanda Users.

I have been running Amanda as a secondary backup for one of my clients. They have a mix of Linux and WIndows servers. Currently I am backing up the Windows servers using SMB shares (either the shares themselves or via the "administrative" share for each drive)

I was looking at the the open source Windows client, and am wondering if ti offers any advantages in my use, or if I am better off staying with the SMB method?

I do know one "con" of using the Windows client is I won't be able to recover individual files or folders from a backup; I would have to extract the entire DLE and then either restore that, or open the resulting archive and extract what I need. That is a little but of an issue, but one I can work around if there are other advantages.

Is there maybe a comparison chart somewhere of the two methods?

Thanks! :-)

Regards,

Alan
