In the category of "You learn something new every day", I just stumbled across the "-v" option of the "ls" command.
When I list my vtape "Slots" directory, the first 5 entries are: slot0 slot1 slot10 slot100 slot101 slot2 doesn't appear for another 40 or 50 entries. Well the "-v" options gives the desired ordering, i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
