I haven't used this option myself, but from the amanda.conf man page
entry for it the first question to ask is whether you are indeed using
ssh authentication in this particular dumptype?
In a quick scan of the (upstream) git repo changelog I don't see any
recent changes that obviously affect this option.
If no one else with actual experience using this option chimes in, I
could try to take a closer look at the code, but it would probably be
easier to track down where in the source to look if you posted the full
definition of the dumptype in question and also the exact text of the
related messages you are finding in the log files....
