Over the last weeks I fiddle with an installation with the following
behavior:

The amanda server is an older gentoo linux box and runs amanda-3.4.5r1
(gentoo package number).

The reason I keep this older version is that I have to talk to an amanda
client which is way older -> a VM with ancient SUSE Linux and
amanda-2.4.0 ... that VM is "read only" in terms of upgrades etc

Things work so far, and I assume my issue is not related to the VM.

The point is:

backups run to a LTO3 tape (remember, 400 GB uncompressed space per
definition)

And when I run a "weekly" run, which uses "dumpcycle 0" it fills the
tape up to ~60% = 239944M and lets a DLE in the holding disk which is
small enough to fit on the tape ...

( a 72 GB DLE )

I disabled hw compression again, and added that to the cron job.

I will run amtapetype on a new tape today to determine "my" LTO3 tapetype.

Any ideas?
