Crashes, or causes it to spin?

If you get to the point of "wbl: " log entry, the decoding and virus checking
was already done, and the next step is calling SA. My guess is that SA
decides to auto-expire the Bayes db (which can take very long time if
using bdb instead of SQL for Bayes db), or perhaps the message is triggering
a SA problem, fixed by SA 3.0.4.
