Hi

What is the exact problem with amavis and perl 5.8.7? We have 4 FreeBSD Mailserver with amavis 2.3.2, perl 5.8.7 and Spamassassin 3.0.4. We don't have any problems with it. Every server is handling 700k avarage mails a day without any problem.

Regards,
Thomas

I have not done any extensive diagnostic, nor have I bothered to send in
an SPR to FreeBSD ports maintainers for the perl 5.8.7 yet, however,
based on all the trauma experienced for everyone who tried perl
5.8.7/freebsd/amavisd-new combination, I would say 'just say no'.

Back port to 5.8.6, there is something seriously wrong.

Yes, amavisd-new has patches to assist in the issues, but what about the
rest of your perl based code?

Also, there are issues with already install CPAN and ports packages that
aren't resolved during install/upgrade.

On every system I have tried this on, it has 'revoked' the perl 5.8.6
port, setting things back to the installed 5.0 perl port, and attempted
to reinstall the CPAN packages there.

Doing a 'use.perl port' restores perl 5.8.7 as default perl, however,
all the CPAN and p5-* packages are still nor in the right .../5.8.7
directories.

IF YOU WANT TO TRY THIS, and you understand what it does, this MIGHT
help:

Do not email me to tell me it doesn't work, or there is a better way.
It might not work, and I would hope there is a better way, send it to
the freebsd port maintainers, not me.

rsync -avu /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.7
