A recent thread made me want to try out f-prot free workstation
version on my Debian machine. I just wanted to relay that installing
the package via apt-get is not a good idea. The f-prot program
would not respond, and 'amavisd-new reload' apparently did not stop
amavisd-new. I did a '--purge remove' to get rid of it, and downloaded
the .deb package from the f-prot site. Installed it using 'dpkg -i'.
This version works fine. Of course you must manually set up a cron job
  to run the check-updates.pl script.

After removing the Debian version and installing the f-prot version,
I found that bash was still looking for the 'f-prot' program in
/usr/bin (it was now in /usr/local/bin), so I rebooted to clean it up.
