If you do not need to run chrooted, the simplest, safest and universal solution is to specify command line options: -u user -g group when starting amavisd daemon. It lets amavisd change uid and gid and does not depend on troublesome code in Net::Server which works on some system and breaks on others, and vice versa, depending on the Net::Server version. The ultimate solution is to bug the author/maintainer of Net::Server to make changing gid work on your OS (and not break the ones that work now).
