There's another trick that works very well for archiving with
Postfix. Unfortunately I've been unable so far to get permission to
release the code for it, but it was relatively easy to implement.

1) Configure the initial Postfix smtpd instance with an access map
which sends all email to the HOLD queue.

2) Write a little daemon (Perl will do nicely) which constantly:

   a) watches for mail to come into the hold queue directories,

   b) copies the queue file to a new directory hierarchy, and then

   c) invokes postsuper to release the mail from hold.

  This does the trick.

We've archived up to a year's worth of mail for a fairly busy domain
that way. One advantage of doing this is that the queue files are
*exactly* as they came into Postfix and have all delivery information
intact, so they can be redelivered very easily.

There are a couple alternate ways you could do the last couple steps
(e.g. move the file and then resubmit it with sendmail) but simply
releasing the original queue file from hold seems simplest.
