It looks like an older version is starting up. With 3.1 it should say dbg: (not debug:) Start by finding the older version of SpamAssassin.pm, and renaming it. You can verify which version gets loaded by looking at the debug output from 'amavisd debug', e.g.: Module Mail::SpamAssassin 3.000003 This happens when you have one version installed by one means, and the other version installed using a different means.
