We found 5.4 a little slower on hard disk access than 4.11, but overall,
with the improved HTT performance, its faster (you have a HTT capable
cpu? Did you enable the SMP stuff?

If using mysql, did you select a my.cnf file from templates in
/usr/local/share/mysql?
Edit thread_concurrency?  (1 htt cpu = 4 threads available)

5.4 uses chrooted named.  Make sure it REALLY works and uses files you
thought you are supposed to use.

5.4 also uses bind 9, not 8. might look at named.conf files also.

Did you reformat? Use new ufs2 file system, or just do a source upgrade?

You have enough ram to use a ram disk for the /var/amavis/tmp partition?
