This was indeed the reason for the fork in $notify_method, and the Courier
bug was fixed in 0.49.0.  Setting $max_servers to 1 works fine for me; if
you still need it then that's bad news.  Can you first of all check that you
don't have "local" in /etc/courier/enablefiltering?
