Hi,

I'm running an multi-domain mail server with a combination of:

- freeBSD 5.3
- postfix-2.2.2,1
- amavisd-new-2.2.1_1,1
- perl-5.8.8
- p5-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.1.1_3
- p5-Net-Server-0.87
- ...

A few days ago I noticed messages like these in my error syslog:

pid 68820 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11
Apr 20 18:56:30 cygnus kernel: pid 68820 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal
11
pid 68822 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11
Apr 20 18:57:25 cygnus kernel: pid 68822 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal
11
pid 68817 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11
Apr 20 18:59:51 cygnus kernel: pid 68817 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal
11
pid 68816 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11
Apr 20 19:04:08 cygnus kernel: pid 68816 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal
11
pid 68825 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11
Apr 20 19:05:54 cygnus kernel: pid 68825 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal
11

A looked in maillog and found these error messages near the timestamps of perl
crashes from syslog:

..., status=deferred (lost connection with 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] while sending
end of data -- message may be sent more than once)
..., status=deferred (lost connection with 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] while sending
end of data -- message may be sent more than once)
..., status=deferred (lost connection with 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] while sending
end of data -- message may be sent more than once)

Messages are not sent more than once but are stuck in queue and sent later in
one of queue flushing events.

Sometimes it happens that perl crashes compleatly and dumpes core in the
perl5.8.8.core (under /var/amavis/):

pid 18555 (perl5.8.8), uid 110: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)

+++

I tried to enable max debug mode for amavisd-new (level 5) but havent seen
anything unusual.

It's realy strange and annoying as most of thousands of mail, comming to
server, is not affected, but only some - like it seems - random ones, are
affected by this error.

Any hint? Has anybody experienced that before?

Kind regards, Marko Kobal.
