Agreed the stuff below would be the best way to go forward, IF the
destination server handles "vrfy".. You will find that MS Exchange (i
believe 2003), albeit the "vrfy" sent by postfix, will still accept the
email and send the Bounce back to you. The only way to solve that issue
is to directly check addresses in the back-end active directory via
ldap.
