So unrelated except in effect -- don't run these commands without manually verifying that amavisd is shut down. amavisd apparently doesn't check to see that it is running -- however, it apparently steps on some of its own resources. When I did this, I got no debug and the original running amavisd started timing out. I need to investigate to determine what stepped on what, and I'll try submit a patch later this week. But *warning* to others, be certain you shut down amavisd before running debug commands others offer.
