With appropriate postfix rejection rules, and tailoring rejection criteria
based upon new spam, the bulk is rejected prior to amavis. So much of the
incoming spam is generated via poorly written / configured bot programs,
that its fairly easy to detect their signature and modify rules during
outbreaks. Catching and defeating early spam surges will prevent much
subsequent spam over the next couple of days/weeks. For instance, there has
been a recent surge of forged Received headers that are easily detected.
Nothing more satisfying than seeing those rejected at the gate.
