Has anyone tested amavisd-new sql connection via dns name?
Or, question is if amavisd-new DBI connection fails, does it make a dns
request or did it cache the dns request (SQL replication is a different
question)
Instead of:
@lookup_sql_dsn = ( ['DBI:mysql:host=localhost;dbname=mail', 'amavis',
''] );
This:
@lookup_sql_dsn = ( ['DBI:mysql:host=sqlhost.loc;dbname=mail', 'amavis',
''] );
Where sqlhost.loc is a local dns zone with two entries:
sqlhost.loc IN A 127.0.0.1
sqlhost.loc IN A {backupip}
Some background:
Freebsd, using CARP for ip failover, using mysql replication.
The 'backupup' is intended to be the CARP virtual address.
I was hoping that DBI would connect to 'localhost' via socket first if
it could, then if that sql server fails, do a dns lookup and pull the
second ip.
Again, not looking for a discussion on sql replication OR carp, just
amavisd-new
(well, second question, what does postfix and SA do in same situation)
If no one has tested this, I will and post results.
