Does amavisd report the version of bdb during startup (and it matches the one you expect, i.e. 4.1), like: amavis[82366]: Creating db in /var/amavis/var/db/amavis/; BerkeleyDB 0.310, libdb 4.3 Does a directory /var/amavis/db exist and is owned by vscan?
