We use an amavisd/SA/clamav setup for our production mail server and are
very happy with it. Recently however we experienced delivery delays and
large mail queues. When examining the reason we found that mails
containing PPT files brought the mail system to a crawl. One example was
a 7 MB file which took several hours to scan. I submitted the file to
clamav by hand, leaving the temps and found that it was expanded to 650
BMytes !! Apparently (there is a discussion on the clamav list) PPT is
an archive format that can explod to very large file structures.

Is there a way to limit the size of powerpoint files being virus scanned
from amavisd? Doas anybody else observer tihs behavior ? What are you
doing about it ??
