I've been using amavisd since old 1.x days and while I've been subscribed to the list for a while, I've not had much need to ask questions since it just works (and the documentation is good). The disabling of amavisd.conf is explained in the package notes. The old config (which is your problem) needs updating with the changes in 2.x. I'm surprised that it still works for you given that a lot has changed. The migration is not difficult at all. Good luck!
