I noticed after upgrading my file version from file-4.17 to
file-4.24 the Amavisd-new sample email "sample-virus-nested.txt"
slips through undetected. I verified this with amavisd-new versions
amavisd-new-2.6.0 and amavisd-new-2.4.4.

Results are the same through part p008:

  result line from file(1): p001: ASCII text\n
result line from file(1): p002: ARC archive data, packed\n
result line from file(1): p004: Zoo archive data, v2.10, modify: v2.0+,
extract: v1.0+\n
result line from file(1): p005: LHarc 1.x/ARX archive data [lh0]\n
result line from file(1): p006: ARJ archive data, v8, slash-switched,
original name: TEST.ARJ, os: MS-DOS\n
result line from file(1): p007: RAR archive data, v14, os: Unix\n
result line from file(1): p008: uuencoded or xxencoded text\n

But then, file-4.17:

  result line from file(1): p009: compress'd data 16 bits\n
result line from file(1): p010: POSIX tar archive\n
result line from file(1): p011: Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract\n
  .....

file-4.24:

  result line from file(1): p009: data\n
  decompose_part: p009 - atomic
  .....

Though I've been building the file package for years, perhaps I
messed up this time. But I'm giving everyone a heads-up just in
case.
