A couple years ago I could run 10 amavisd servers each on 512MB
machines without problems, but last fall when I upgraded both amavisd
and SpamAssassin to then-recent versions, I found that all my
spam-filtering machines were indeed running very tight on RAM. They
were much more stable when I upgraded them to 2GB each.
In your situation, I would not suspect a memory leak, just steady
growth in memory requirements for newer versions of SpamAssassin,
clamd, etc.
