I have long configured multiple postfix servers with amavisd to forward
messages from local postfix --> local amavisd --> primary postfix (remote).

I have never experienced any trouble; but it occurred to me that if the
primary postfix server went down, amavisd would be responsible for
queuing messages waiting for the primary to come back up.

It also occurred to me that amavisd is cool enough, it might actually
hold the originating connect from the local postfix open until it was
done processing and had moved the mail forward to the remote allowing it
to give a 450 or some such. Or is that wishful thinking?

Thanks.
