Yes, partition_tags is exactly what I'm doing.  This database
maintenance is to add the partition_tags, but it's going to take
around 8-12 hours to complete the maint on a 50GB database.  I can't
have email offline that long to just shutdown amavisd during the
maintenance.

I am eager to get this done so the weekly cleanups are much faster.
Right now it takes almost 3 days to cleanup based on a non-partitioned
setup.

So I am in 100% agreement with you on the steps to make this better;
however, I need to take the 1st step first of updating the databases
to support partition_tags, which includes re-indexing.  I just need a
way to do that and keep the legit email flowing while doing it.
