Trying to understand the SQL Voodoo Amavis is doing will help you...
...just kidding, it's no Voodoo at all - please don't be scared ;-)

Having a look at $sql_select_white_black_list (and maybe also to
$sql_select_policy) will bring some light to this topic. You can
easily adapt those queries by defining your very personal variants
in your amavisd.conf.
